There are many of these “vote for <insert name here> “ blogs popping up during this campaigning season. I don’t intend for this to be another one. I want to give you some insight into what makes up a great candidate for the board.
I’ve been around this community for a long time and one of the most impactful people in my community career has been Amy Lewis (http://www.sqlpass.org/Elections/Candidates/AmyLewis.aspx ). As you can see in her application and supporting material for this election, she has been a leader in progressively challenging and global roles. As a board member who has focused on some of our most critical portfolios, I have had Amy as an indispensable ally in all our program endeavors. These events would not have the level of growth, maturity, success and professionalism that they have without her leadership and hands on impact. Prior to these events, Amy grew our BI virtual chapter from a part time group into a global force that is impacting a new record level of attendees and successfully transitioned it to an international group of leaders to continue to grow.
Amy has all the qualities and background to be an impactful board member. She is also the only candidate to have multiple board members see and recognize her capabilities and fit for this role by recommending her to the nomcom and the membership (http://amylewisaz.wordpress.com/2013/09/25/amy-lewis-your-virtual-chapter-candidate-for-pass-board-of-directors/ ). Being a part of this body is an incredible responsibility and we ask a lot of our board members. More than most of them understand and have visibility to prior to being on the board. Many of them join with the best of intentions but feel the pressures and struggle with giving of their already limited time and growing a portfolio. Amy has worked so closely with leaders of multiple portfolios over the years and knows what this will take and is ready for the next challenge in her contribution to the community. We have big goals for the coming years and we need people who are capable of thinking big and then doing big things.
I believe all candidates have value to add to our community. Like most roles that you have multiple people going for in the professional world, all have different goals and experiences supporting them in that effort. Some have more existing PASS experience and success than others, but Amy is the only one with the extensive track record of multiple portfolio success in actually turning strategy into reality. That is what our membership and the board need. Folks who not only have great ideas, but can turn those into the right version of what’s best for the community.
As you cast your vote this week, consider who you would want to have working for you, for your chapter, for your virtual chapter, and for your WIT group. Amy is my top choice and she should be yours.
Thanks for your time and passion for this organization..
